New to Scrapbooking...Check Out this List of Must Haves! Are you a scrapbook newbie? Are you wondering how to begin? If you are like most of us when we started scrapbooking, you are nearly overwhelmed by the tools, papers, stickers, and embellishments lining the walls of your local scrapbook store! Don’t panic! Take a deep breath and make up your mind to start slowly. Then, check out the following list of tools to help you start on the journey to becoming a Scrap Junkie! – You probably already have at least one pair of scissors around the house, but consider purchasing a pair that you will only use for scrapbooking. Scrapbooking scissors should have a precision tip, be very sharp, and comfortable to use. We recommend any of the following: – with a spring action that causes the scissors to open after every cut Fiskar Non-Stick – high quality scissors with a non-stick surface that is great for precision cuttingEK’s Cutter Bee – cute, compact scissors with a protective safety coverPaper Trimmer – If you are asking yourself why you need a paper trimmer if you already have scissors, just ask any scrapbooker and they will strongly recommend a paper trimmer for accurate, straight cuts. Our favorite is the purple Fiskar 12” Euro model.Acid-free markers – Zig Writers are acid free and come in loads of colors. Start off with basic black and a few favorite colors and build your collection from there.Craft knife – Once again, even if you have one at home, make sure you have a craft knife that is comfortable to use. We like the Xacto X2000 with the cushioned grip. Size 11 blades are the best for scrapbook weight papers and cardstock.Self-healing mat – The Fiskar’s craft mat is self-healing and fits into a standard binder for storage and carrying with you.Metal-edged ruler – The metal edge is important when you want to slice a straight line with your Xacto blade. We’ve found a great stainless steel ruler with a cork back that prevents it from slipping.Adhesives – Our adhesive wall covers more than 18 square feet of space! Some of our favorites are listed below:– This acid-free, refillable, removable dispenser holds 49 feet of “glue spot dots.” Very little moisture, so you don’t have to worry about “warping” your pages. Tombow Color Glue Stick – For those of you who prefer a glue stick, this one goes on blue so you can see where you have applied glue, but dries clear.Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue – Acid-free with two applicator tips (thick and thin). Apply it moderately and let it dry completely and you will be able to reposition objects. Or, attach objects while glue is wet for a permanent bond.Un-du – As wonderful as all the adhesives are, sometimes you need to remove them. Un-du is called the “scrapper’s solution” because it safely removes stickers, tape, and more without harming the items you are removing or the materials they are so stubbornly stuck to!Most scrapbookers won't be found without the basics we've covered here...so fill you craft room or your Crop-in-Style to the brim with these excellent tools!
